2002 Conference

A 'Welcome' to the 26th annual converence was given by Elda Lousberg, Chair of the Eastern Plains Legislative Task Force; John Crostwait, Chair of the Northeast Colorado Association of Local Governments Board of Directors; and Don Gorham, Chair of the Area Agency on Aging's regional advisory council.

Ocular Nutrition or a Healthy Eye
Dr. John Eliff from the Sterling Eye Center provided a presentation and slides.

Colorado Commission on Aging
Members of the Colorado Commission on Aging were introduced.

Starting & Staying Fit
Presentations by Dene Carter, Logan County Senior Services Coordinator and Jan Mixon, Logan County Extension Office.  'Step counters' with the "Colorado on the Move" logo were distributed and participants were instructed on the program and how to use the step counters.

Basic Computer & E-Mail
Participants were shown the basics of computer and e-mail use.

Banquet
Keynote speaker was Brian Kroeger, who did several 'personality' impressions as well as providing an inspirational speech.  There was a fashion show of fashions of long ago and singers provided some excellent musical entertainment.  After dinner, Larry Worth, executive director of NECALG called bingo for those who stayed up late to participate.

Ombudsman Rights
A 'game' was played and three groups (one from each region) were selected to participate.  Everyone learned a great deal about the rights of residents in long term care facilities.

Administration on Aging
Percy Devine, bi-regional administrator of the U.S.Administration on Aging, provided an update on events and activities within the Administration.

Legislative Forum
Gene Meisner, Logan County Commissioner, facilitated the legislative forum portion of the conference.


The Benefits Check-Up Van was available all day Friday and participants were urged to visit the van to determine if there were services available that could benefit them
